Lost in Palm Springs, California: The Perfect Weekend Getaway
My recent trip to Palm Springs was nothing short of incredible. So much so, that Rikki and I vowed to ourselves that we will make this a destination we visit at least once every five years (if not more), to mark our anniversary milestones. Palm Springs was our first international trip destination over 5 years ago. Although it was work that brought me here, we decided to extend our stay for a weekend to explore this desert paradise. Palm Springs is the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts, foodies, and those seeking a taste of classic Hollywood glamour. Surrounded by mountains, and an endless array of Palm Trees (hence its name), this desert oasis has so much to explore. Here are some of my recommendations!
The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage
For a luxurious start to your Palm Springs experience, check in at the Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage. Although definitely on the pricier side, this resort has stunning views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and a range of amenities, including two fantastic pool areas. It's the perfect base for your desert adventure. Whether you want to relax by the pool, indulge in a spa day, or embark on a guided hike along the Chuckwalla Trail (offered daily with your stay), this resort has it all. The grounds are also stunning. If youβre on a budget, consider booking a lunch at the State Fare outdoor patio.
Joshua Tree National Park
Just a short drive from Palm Springs, Joshua Tree National Park awaits with its otherworldly landscapes, straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. On your way to the park, make a pit stop at The Station for quirky souvenirs that capture the spirit of the desert. Hike through unique rock formations and take in the beautiful Joshua Trees. I highly recommend visiting in the afternoon so that you can enjoy an unforgettable sunset at the Cholla Cactus Garden. The sunset hear was unreal!
The Indian Canyons
Embark on a serene hike through the lush Indian Canyons, known for their abundance of breathtaking palm trees and rugged beauty. I was blown away by this park. Imagine walking through a forest of trees, except all the trees are giant palm trees towering over you. Iβve never seen anything like it. It's a perfect escape into the natural wonders of the Coachella Valley.
El Mirasol Restaurant
Whenever I visit California, I make it a must to have Mexican food. I absolutely love it and California has some of the best Mexican restaurants outside of Mexico. Treat your taste buds to the best Mexican food in Palm Springs at El Mirasol. I had one of the best dishes Iβve had in a very long time here. Highly recommend the crispy mini chorizo tacos for a starter, and the βChicharron con Salsaβ: pork belly fried and roasted until crispy and served with green tomatillo, red tomato, scallions, and fresh-pressed garlic. This is by far the BEST Mexican meal Iβve ever had, and Iβve had a LOT of Mexican food. With authentic dishes and flavours that will transport you straight to Mexico, it's no wonder this spot has Guy Fieri's stamp of approval.
Forever Marilyn Statue
Palm Springs has a deep connection to Hollywood's golden era, and what better way to pay homage than by visiting the iconic Marilyn Monroe statue in downtown Palm Springs? It's a picture-perfect spot to capture the allure of old Hollywood. It makes for a perfect photo and definitely worth the visit.
Farm Restaurant
Start your day with a delightful breakfast or brunch at Farm Restaurant. Located in the heart of the city, it's a farm-to-table gem with a menu full of fresh, local ingredients. Their creative dishes will fuel you for a day of exploring. I definitely recommend the outdoor seating which reminded me of an old Spanish hacienda with greenery throughout.
The Trixie Motel
Nestled in the heart of Palm Springs, The Trixie Motel is as cute as it gets. The motel offers seven custom themed rooms. Although we didnβt stay here, if you visit the gift shop, youβll have a few minutes to snap some pictures and peak into the motel. This chic and stylish motel is like a Barbie movie set decked out in all shades of pink. It has a retro vibe, inviting pool, and a location that's close to all the action.
Palm Springs is a destination that seamlessly combines the serenity of the desert with the excitement of a vibrant city. With a rich tapestry of natural wonders, delicious dining options, and charming surprises, you'll create memories to last a lifetime. So, pack your bags, put on your shades, and immerse yourself in the magic of Palm Springs. This desert oasis is waiting to be explored.
