Welcome to Lost with Luis! I blog about my travels, adventures and thoughts. Come get lost with me!
My name is Luis. I am a native from the Dominican Republic and when I am not exploring this beautiful world we live in, I work in the wonderful (sometimes unforgiving) world of events.
My first 12 years of life were based in Florida, where I frolicked under sunny skies with sweat-stained chubby cheeks (I’m a former member of the chub club, folks), built forts, caught fireflies and was often found daydreaming. I was THAT kid that always make-believed and persuaded my friends go along with me.
For the last 23 years, I have lived in Ontario, Canada, where I navigated my way through harsher, colder weather, but quickly fell in love with this beautiful country I now proudly call home.
I consider myself a ‘modern day explorer’ in the sense that my love for the unknown goes much further than just travel. I enjoy new experiences, love being pushed out of my comfort zone (*) and find I am the most ‘alive’ when I am experiencing something new for the first time.
*Disclaimer*: Free falling, skydiving or bungee jumping does not make the list for ‘out of my comfort zone’. I will try most things, but falling from high places does not make the cut!
My love for adventure catapulted when I quit my job and left everything behind at the age of 23 to backpack through Thailand for a few months. Outside of North America, I hadn’t been anywhere and I was nervous about leaving my life behind, yet excited. It was in Thailand when I first saw the world in a completely different perspective. I volunteered at an orphanage as well as a school with children with disabilities where I discovered a new love for philanthropy. I met wonderful people, many of whom opened my eyes to a much larger world. I soul searched, and it was there that I promised myself that my life would be one big adventure moving forward.
I have started this blog to share my experiences and inspire people. I find social media can often give people the wrong impression about me. I mean let’s be real people, life is not about perfectly curated photos. Say it with me: Instagram is only the ‘red carpet moments’ of life. My intention is not to say ‘look at me’ or ‘my life is perfect’, (Trust me, it is far from it) but furthermore, to inspire people to live their best life, regardless of their financial situation or other limitations. Believe me, I have had financial struggles in the past, and yet I never let that stop me from exploring, even if it’s in my own neighborhood.
Come get lost with me.
